Pablo Rouviot, a Buenos Aires psychoanalyst, is startled out of a year-long depression by a young woman who appears in his office, begging for help: Her father, a wealthy businessman, has been found stabbed to death, and her brother, a young man with serious psychological problems, stands accused of the crime. The woman begs Pablo to help exonerate her brother. But as Pablo digs deeper into the case, he begins to piece together a plot in which nothing is as it seems; doctors, police officers, lawyers, and lovers conspire to hide a family history fraught with secrets and violence.
