Study of the history of the United States vis-à-vis Latin America and the change in United States foreign policy after the Monroe Doctrine and the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848, based on the correspondence of the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Carlos Alvear (1835-1852). Because of the latter focus, the author also deals with Argentine history in the same period.
